When the song of the angels is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the kings and princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flock,
the work of Christmas begins:
To find the lost,
To heal the broken,
To feed the hungry,
To release the prisoner,
To rebuild the nations,
To bring peace among brothers,
To make music in the heart.
Howard Thurman, founder of the Church for the Fellowship
of All People, San Francisco.
(From Pastor's Letter, Jim Kitchens, Calvary Presbyterian Church,
San Francisco, January 2011)
Howard Thurman's poem reminds me of one of the few poems I remember from high school - by Kipling - which begins, "When earth's last picture is painted...." Always a favorite. This is a nice continuation of those thoughts.
